Vision POS Implements New Quality Control and Production Process

2003-05-15 Glenview, IL ? May 15, 2003 ? Vision Point of Sale, Inc. (Vision POS), the nation's leading provider of refurbished point-of-sale systems and solutions, has implemented a new production and quality control process at its Glenview-based facility to improve overall efficiency, enhance quality and reduce response time and customer delivery of its refurbished POS hardware.

The goal of the process improvement effort is to strengthen the main factors that determine customer response and satisfaction. ?It?s clear to us that strong processes in our operations will give us the ability to not only better serve our customers, but to roll out new, innovative offerings that will give customers a broader range of point-of-sale options.?

Driving the success of this initiative is Roy S. Hillier, a senior consultant in manufacturing processes. Drawing upon supply chain and manufacturing expertise with Unilever in South Africa and Ineos Silicas in The Netherlands and Joliet, Illinois, Hillier first initiated a two-week evaluation of factory processes at Vision POS. Based on that evaluation, a number of new process improvement were implemented, including:
  • a new production assembly system, along with a new one-shift staffing approach
  • a new chemical-free, environmentally sound cleaning system that better aligns with OSHA standards
  • an leading-edge incentive program to further drive factory output and enhance quality standards
In less than a week, Vision POS realized significant improvements in efficiency, and continues to work towards achieving process goals, which include reducing margin for error in quality to one percent from five percent, increasing output of refurbished POS hardware by 100 percent, and reducing delivery time from weeks to days. Achieving these standards will further enhance Vision POS?s position as the leader in refurbished POS solutions and enable the company to implement innovative solutions-based approaches for customers.
